How to Import from SwiftKey

Import your personal dictionary and recent emoji from SwiftKey.

Export Your Data from SwiftKey

Microsoft recently moved all SwiftKey data backup to OneDrive, so there is no longer a method of retrieving your data without using OneDrive. If you have a backup of your data from the old SwiftKey Data Portal before Microsoft shut it down, mochiKey can handle importing that file type. Otherwise, you need to follow the steps below for OneDrive to obtain a copy of your data.

Ensure Backup is Enabled

  1. Open the SwiftKey app on your phone, and tap the user icon in the top right.
  2. If you aren't signed in, tap Sign in with Microsoft.
  3. Go to Backup and Sync, and ensure both toggles are enabled.

Export Your Data

  1. Go to https://onedrive.live.com/.
  2. Tap the folder icon on the left. If you haven't used OneDrive before, it can take some time to provision your account.
  3. Go to Apps > SwiftKey Keyboard > Dictionary.
  4. Tap on Vocabulary.txt.
  5. Tap the three dot menu > Download.

Import Your Data to mochiKey

You can now import your SwiftKey Data.

  1. Open the mochiKey app, and go to Import and Export.
  2. Tap Import from SwiftKey, and choose the file you downloaded in the previous steps.
  3. mochiKey will show you how many items it imported.

Import Limitations

mochiKey will import your personal dictionary and add all the items to Saved Words. It skips common dictionary words and short number sequences to keep your saved words clean. It will also import all emoji you've used into recent emoji.

SwiftKey also saves words you type frequently after another, called n-grams. This is helpful for the suggestion bar to show what word it thinks you'll type next. While mochiKey also saves this data and would be capable of importing it, Microsoft currently locks this data in the proprietary "dynamic.lm" binary file. Currently, mochiKey is not able to import this type of file. mochiKey's Prediction Engine has built-in n-grams for general conversations, and will learn your personal n-grams over time as you type. mochiKey believes your data belongs to you, so all data it stores about your typing habits can easily be exported in human-readable format on the Import and Export page.
